Reston Regions
The Reston community was planned and developed to appeal to the interests and needs of a variety of people. The area is not a homogenous bedroom community like those found near metropolitan areas around the country.
Reston is uniquely multidimensional. You can live, work and play here by design.
While many communities can be understood in terms of neighborhoods, we look at Reston as five distinct regions. Each offers opportunities to live, work and play as well as being part of the overall fabric of Reston.
In each area you will find a range of home sizes and styles on lots of all sizes.
Metro Corridor
The opening of Metro Silver Line has created an exciting buzz in the adjoining areas.
- The Wiehle-Reston East Station is located in the median of the Dulles Airport Access Highway/Dulles Toll Road, just west of the intersection with Wiehle Avenue
- The Reston Town Center Station is under construction in the median of the Dulles Airport Access Highway/Dulles Toll Road just west of the Reston Parkway overpass
Around these stations is a range of housing options, with more being added. Projects include residential space, office space, retail areas, and development of public open space. A recent addition is a fleet of driverless cars to take people from the metro area to other places around town.
North Reston
North Reston is located between Baron Cameron Road and Leesburg Pike. Built between the mid-1980s and late-1990s, homes in this region include apartments, condos, garage townhomes and a range of single family homes. There’s something for everyone, highlighted by interesting contemporaries and grand colonial style homes. North Reston allows for convenient access to the Tysons region, as well as Leesburg, by way of Leesburg Pike.
South Reston
The first areas developed in Reston form the core of the south Reston area. This area has a traditional feel.
Many streets are cul-de-sacs. Homes generally sit on large lots. This area is notable for older homes with unique features as well as many newly remodeled options.
Lake Anne Village
Lake Anne Village offers housing, shops, amenities and athletic pursuits within walking distance of each home. Apartments, condominiums, townhouses – small to very large – and detached single family homes sit side by side around the lake.
Lake Anne Village Center is a historic landmark and appears today as it was when opened in the summer of 1965. It is designed to resemble a contemporary version of a European fishing village. You can circle the lake on a paved pathway system crossing canals, bridges and parkland and beaches.
Central Reston and Reston Town Center
Reston Town Center, known locally as Town Center, is a mixed-use development featuring offices, retail stores, and restaurants. It is surrounded by a variety of housing options. Just about everything is walking distance from your front door.
